Project Overview

Located in Devon, close to Exeter, Glosfume has manufactured a filtration system for a Small Waste Incineration Plant (SWIP), specifically targeting the combustion of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF). This system is engineered to handle up to 3 tonnes of RDF per hour.

Renewable Energy Generation

A significant feature of this project is the dual-purpose use of the heat generated from RDF combustion. It not only fuels Organic Rankine Cycles (ORC’s) to produce electricity but also supplies heat to the local district heating network.

Advanced Filtration Technology

At the heart of the system lies an innovative filter composed of 8 pods, each containing 720 ceramic elements measuring 1.25m long. This arrangement allows for processing up to 85,075 actual m3/hr at a temperature of up to 400°C, this fits the requirements of the site.

Emission Control Techniques

The system employs sodium bicarbonate injection for acid gases reduction, delivered from a 42-tonne capacity silo into the filter inlet. The dosing rates modulate controlled by feedback from Continuous Emission Monitoring (CEM) equipment. Additionally, for heavy metals and dioxin/furans removal, pulverized activated carbon (PAC) is blown into the filter from a 1m3 big bag dosing system.

Waste Management and Disposal

Post-filtration, the spent sorbent and fly ash are responsibly disposed of in 8 off 2 tonne bulk bags. A clean and simple solution to waste management.
