Situation / Problem
New state of the art processing plant in Germany costing over €38,000,000.00
High volume of high temperature residual tobacco particles
Particles at the operating temperatures are explosive
Solution
Vented gas stream controlled by a fully ATEX compliant Glosfume hot gas ceramic filter system, installed in 2013
Stainless steel construction
Fully ATEX
Benefits
Fully ATEX system
Stainless steel
Gas flow of up to 3115kg of treatment per hour
Particulate emissions of less than 3mg/m3
Results
A new British American Tobacco (BAT) processing plant, capital cost of over €38,000,000.00, built in Germany has a vented gas stream controlled by a fully ATEX compliant Glosfume hot gas ceramic filter system, installed in 2013.
The ceramic filter was used to remove residual hot particles of tobacco from a vented gas stream of steam, air and carbon dioxide. The tobacco particles at temperature are regard as explosive, the 600-element ceramic filter was manufactured in stainless steel with an explosion vent fitted to the filter body. Gas flow rates treated are 3115kg per hour at 180oC, dust loading into filter 7.25kg per hour, gas outlet particulate concentration less than 3mg/m3.
The ceramic filter system was inspected at the production factory (FAT test) by BAT representatives, the filter was shipped and installed and subject to a site acceptance test (SAT).
