6 Glosfume filter pods operating as a system with high temperature ceramic elements
Sodium bicarbonate sorbent injection system at high temperature instead of lime removed the product setting in filter

Results
In 2001 at a location in America a Glosfume high temperature ceramic filter system replaced an existing bag filter that suffered fires and severe corrosion due to low operating temperatures, combined with extremely high HCl levels, during aluminium scrap de-coating of plastic.
The original Lime injection system provided inadequate HCI removal (due to PVC plastic) and led to problems with CaCI2 ‘setting’ in the plant’s filter house. The problem was eventually overcome by injection of sodium bicarbonate at 315oC operating temperature. Gas flow of up to 30,000 actual m3/hr are treated in the six pod Glosfume hot gas ceramic filter system, reducing pollutants to atmosphere for particulates from 400mg/m3 to 3mg/m3 and HCl from 1000mg/m3 to 5mg/m3.
Plant is still operating on the original set of elements over 20 years later.
