This amount of renewable energy, alongside the ability to reduce the size of the waste to as little as 5% of the original size, is resulting in the energy-from-waste market growing year on year and is expected to hit £1.5 billion in the UK alone this year.

However, this solution does have its challenges, particularly emissions arising from the combustion of materials such as non-recyclable plastics and other hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
