How Our Hot Gas Filters Work

The very best in hot gas filtration. Glosfume filters work by drawing flue gases through filter elements that reduce a range of emissions, allowing for best-in-class performance. The unique out-to-in operation allows for fully automated cleaning to occur regularly, reducing downtime and costs.

Our filter principles of operation efficiently remove nanogram-sized particles

Within the filter vessel hangs the filter element, with the clean and dirty compartments separated by the header plate. Hot gas is drawn through the filter medium from outside to inside; as the gases are drawn in, particulates are removed from the gas stream onto the element’s outer surface, forming a filter cake.

These particles are then removed by the reverse-jet cleaning process, where a short pulse of high-pressure gas is fired automatically down the clean side of the filter element. The particles are discharged through the hopper outlet for collection and disposal.

Glosfume filtration system technology

  1. Micro-porous elements constructed in-house using bespoke filtration media remove particles down to the sub-micron size.
  2. Support plate for the filtration elements allowing the elements to be held in a vertical position, and allowing the “dirty” compartment to be separated from the “clean” compartment. Hot and dirty fumes are sucked by vacuum through the ceramic filter media (red arrows).
  3. Hot and dirty fumes are sucked by vacuum through the filtration media (red arrows).
  4. Solid particles (dust) and neutralization additives are collected on the outer surface of the filter media thus forming a “particle cake”.
  5. Injection of compressed air against the current (blue arrows) unclogs the filter elements, the solid particles forming the “cake” detach from the filtering elements without particle emissions in the clean fumes compartment.
  6. The solid particles (dust + additives) are thus recovered by gravity in the hopper for evacuation in the ashtray.
  7. The cleaned fumes come out with a dust level of typically less than 1 mg/Nm3 (green arrows).
  8. As an option, the frame can be supplied with thermal insulation and electrical tracing to avoid condensation on the walls when using acid or special fuels.
