Customer Profile

Ron Hull Group

Situation / Problem

Operating temperature up to 350oC

20,000 actual m3/hr

Particulate emissions of 400mg/m3

Solution

Glosfume hot gas filter system of four pods with individual dust monitoring

Glosfume ceramic filter elements

Benefits

Reduced particulate emissions from 400mg/m3 to less than 3mg/m3

Automatic pod control through pneumatic dampers

Element replacement when operational

Reduction of environmental testing period from 12 months to 24 month intervals

Results

In 2016 a second installation of a Glosfume hot gas ceramic filter system for Ron Hull Group. The sloping hearth furnace melts over 25 tons a day of car engines producing various grades of high-quality secondary aluminium ingot.

The hot gas filter operates up to 350oC and a maximum gas flow rate of 20,000 actual m3/hr. Particulate emissions are reduced from 400mg/m3 to less than 3mg/m3.  The ceramic filter unit comprises of 4 pods each filter pod outlet is fitted with a dust monitor, if an element fails the pod is automatically isolated using air-controlled dampers.  This allows element replacement to be carried out without having to shutdown the complete plant. For this reason the local environmental department changed the permit testing from every 12 months to every 24 month.
